Welcome to the Czech Biosafety Clearing-House (BCH)

The Czech node of BCH was established under Article 20 of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, in order to facilitate the exchange of scientific, technical, environmental and legal information on living modified organisms (LMOs) *, and to assist Parties to implement the Protocol.

This Web site has been set up and is managed by the Department of Environmental Risks of the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic.

The BCH National Focal Point responsible for managing communication between the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity and respective governments, and the public, is established at the Department of Environmental Risks of the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic as well.

* In the Czech Republic the term "genetically modified organism" (GMO) is used, including in domestic legislation, to describe LMOs covered by the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.
