Minister of the Environment Tomáš Chalupa is attending the Global Ministerial Environment Forum

The 12th session of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Governing Council and Global Ministerial Environment Forum is taking place in Nairobi on 20-22 February 2012. The Czech Republic is represented by the Minister of the Environment Mr. Tomáš Chalupa.

The session will focus on two key events of the year 2012 – high-level UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) in June and the 40th anniversary of the establishment of UNEP – reflected under the theme “Environmental agenda in the changing world: From Stockholm (1972) to Rio (2012)”.

During the discussions on themes that are closely linked to the Rio+20 conference, Minister Chalupa will support the process of strengthening and streamlining the international environmental governance and integrating the fragmented system. In relation to green economy, the Minister will warn against overregulation and excessive subsidies and support wider use of market instruments to promote investment, innovation and increasing resource-efficiency.
