Green Economy Ambassadors' Forum met in Prague

The developed G20 countries should invest at least 1% of their annual GDP into reducing the dependency of their economies on carbon fuels, primarily on oil. At the same time, developing countries should direct the same proportion of their GDP to providing clean drinking water and quality sanitation, which implies, for example, sewerage and waste water purification. This was the agreement reached by those international economists, representatives from the business and academic sectors and politicians who attended today’s Green Economy Ambassadors' Forum. The Forum was convened in Prague by Ladislav Miko, the Environment Minister, and is held under the auspices of the first President of the Republic, Václav Havel, who is also attending in person. In addition to Václav Havel and Ladislav Miko, the Forum was attended by a number of eminent guests. The Chairmanship of the two thematic sections of the conference was shared between Ladislav Miko and the economist and a member of the former Government National Economic Council, Miroslav Zámečník. Panel members also included the Study Leader of the international scientific team The Economics of Ecosystems & Biodiversity, Pavan Sukhdev. Edward B. Barbier, Professor at the University of Wyoming presented the main conclusions of the Global Green New Deal study, for which he was the head editor for the UNEP. Contributions to the panel discussions were also made by the head of Group Risk Management of the ABN AMRO bank, Herman Mulder, Professor of Economics at the Stockholm School of Economics Karl-Göran Mäler, trustee of the Ford Foundation, former Minister of Environment for the Republic of Ecuador and future President of the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), Yolanda Kakabadse, head of strategy at the DG Environment of the European Commission, Robin Miege, and the Swedish Ambassador to Prague, Catherine von Heidenstam. Prominent guests were also to be found in the public, such as the Danish Ambassor to the Czech Republic, Ole Emil Moesby, and the former Czech Environment Minister, Martin Bursík.
