Ladislav Miko launched Green Week 2009 in Brussels

EU Environment Council President-in-office and Czech Environment Minister Ladislav Miko together with EU Commissioner responsible for the Environment Stavros Dimas launched traditional Green Week 2009 today in Brussels. The annual Green Week is organized by the European Commission with the aim of raising the awareness of the general public of the principles of European environmental policies. This year’s meeting has the subtitle “Climate Change: Act and Adapt”. The European Commission thus intends to draw attention to the negotiations on the new climate change agreement that should replace the current Kyoto Protocol after 2012 and that should be approved this December in Copenhagen. Green Week will thus be dedicated to global measures that will be necessary to mitigate climate change and to adapt to its impact.
