Council of Europe Development Bank
The Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) represents a major instrument of the policy of solidarity in Europe, in order to help its 40 Member States to achieve sustainable and equitable growth. It participates in financing social projects, responds to emergency situations and contributes to improving the living conditions of the most disadvantaged population groups. It is legally and financially independent. Its activities complement those of the other intergovernmental financial institutions. The Czech Republic became member of the CEB in 1999. The Bank´s organs are the Governing Board, the Administrative Council, the Governor and the Auditing Board.
Among three main areas of activities of the CEB belong:
- Strengthening social integration
Aid to refugees, migrant and displaced persons, social housing, creation and prevention of viable jobs, improving living conditions in urban and rural areas - Managing the Environment
Protection of the environment, natural and ecological disasters, historic and culture heritage - Supporting public infrastructure with a social vocation
Health, education and vocational training, infrastructure of administrative and judicial public services
The Czech representative to the Governing Board is H.E. Mr. Tomáš Boček, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the Council of Europe, Strasbourg. The Czech representative to the Administrative Council is Mr. Jiří Franta, Director of the Debt and Financial Assets Management Department, Ministry of Finance, Prague. Ms. Ewa Schwebel is a country manager of the CEB for the Czech Republic.
