Climate Policy of the EU

Climate protection is one of the priority areas of the EU and its policies. The Climate-Energy Package, which was approved by the European Parliament and Council in December 2008, is focused on greenhouse gas emission reduction. However, further emission cuts were proposed in the 2030 framework for climate and energy policies. In relation to the issue of adaptation to climate change, the European Commission published in April 2013 a Communication: An EU Strategy on adaptation to climate change (EU Adaptation Strategy). This paper presents a long-term strategy (2020) to increase the EU's resilience to negative impacts of climate change at all levels and in line with the objectives of the Europe 2020 Strategy.
