Climate Policy
Climate policy comprises several levels of activity. The Czech Republic ratified the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 1993, thus recognising the climate change problem and the need to resolve it. The Kyoto Protocol was ratified subsequently; it commits the advanced countries to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. The climate protection policy is currently one of the key topics at the EU level. The political attitudes to climate change are co-ordinated within the European Union so that the EU acts unanimously in UN negotiations. The EU is one of the principal players at international meetings on the climate issues. At the national level, the Czech Republic is currently preparing a Climate Protection Policy to include measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
