Bilateral Relations Outside the EU

The Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic maintains bilateral co-operation with numerous countries outside the EU. The co-operation with selected countries and partner ministries commenced chiefly through implementing projects in international development assistance. Following up on these project activities and mutual manifestations of interest, the co-operation was extended with additional areas and activities. Departmental agreements were concluded with some countries, so-called Memoranda, defining specifically the areas and forms of mutual co-operation.

So far the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic has concluded Memoranda with the following countries: Serbia, Montenegro, FYR Macedonia, Egypt, Mexico, China, Vietnam, Mongolia, and Azerbaijan. The most common topics for the co-operation include air protection, wastewater treatment, management and protection of environmentally sensitive areas, including protected ones, support to countries in transposing EU legislation (the Balkans), and co-operation on implementing multilateral environmental conventions.
